## Our picks by category

Ratings are the catalogue editors', not ours. Prices are euro RRP; UK shops usually undercut them.

### Best overall: Alkemia Ignis 2026

Joint top rating among current models (8.8), power 9.1, control 9.2, from a medium-feel, medium-balance teardrop. Around €250, and it needs no professional swing.

*Teardrop*

### Best for control: Babolat Counter Viper 2026

Control a full 10 with a 9.1 sweet spot from a round head on 3K carbon. The core is hard: clean contact rewarded, sore elbows not. Around €320.

*Round*

### Best for power: Head Extreme Pro 2026

Power 10, control 9.6, a Power Foam core, a fixed 370 g and a high balance. Sweet spot 8.0, so you must be finishing points already. Around €280.

*Diamond*

### Best all-round teardrop: Head Speed Pro X 2025

Power 9.2, control 9.6, sweet spot 8.7: the most complete profile in the catalogue for a player who attacks and defends equally. Medium-high balance, medium-hard feel. Around €300.

*Teardrop*

### Best for the arm: Star Vie Metheora Pro Touch 2025

A medium-soft core, low-medium balance and a 9.6 sweet spot take the sting out of off-centre hits. The stated range is 350 to 385 g; check the sticker. Around €260.

*Round*

### Best value: Nox ML10 Pro Cup Rough Surface 2025

Around €150 RRP, well under £200 in the UK, with control 9.1 and an 8.9 sweet spot. Fibreglass face and a medium-soft core add no power; Miguel Lamperti manages.

*Round*

### Best for the right side: Oxdog Pure Pro Plus 2026

Joint biggest sweet spot among current models (9.7), control 9.6, low-medium balance: for the player whose job is keeping the ball in. Hard core, so precise rather than plush. Around €300.

*Round*

### Best for the left side: Nox AT10 Genius Attack 18K 2026

Agustín Tapia's diamond, with a medium feel instead of the usual hard core, so power 9.6 keeps control 9.1. High balance, for the player who already takes the smashes. Around €360.

*Diamond*

### Best for intermediates: Bullpadel Vertex 05 Hybrid 2026

The step-up frame: a medium-feel, medium-balance teardrop with control 9.2 and a 9.1 sweet spot under 12K carbon. Power 8.0 is the honest price of that forgiveness. Around €340.

*Teardrop*

### Wildcard: Bullpadel Vertex 04 2024

A medium-feel diamond scoring 9.1 for power, control and sweet spot alike, rated 8.8 like this year's top row. A 2024 frame, so expect a discount on the €300 RRP.

*Diamond*

Weight is the manufacturer's stated range. Balance is where the mass sits: low means towards the handle, high means towards the head. Price band is the recommended retail price in euros (entry under 120, mid 120 to 200, premium 200 to 300, pro over 300); UK street prices are usually lower. Level is our reading of the shape, balance and core, not a rule.

## How to choose a padel racket in 2026

Six specs decide how a racket plays. In your first season? The [best padel racket for beginners](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/best-padel-racket-for-beginners) has its own page.

### Shape

**Round** keeps the sweet spot in the centre of the head, which is why round frames lead the control columns. **Diamond** moves the mass to the tip: more smash, less forgiveness. **Teardrop** sits between, where most intermediate and advanced club players belong.

### Balance and weight

Balance is where the weight sits, and it changes the feel more than the weight itself: a **low balance** feels light and quick at the net, a **high balance** feels heavy at the tip and adds pace to overheads. Most adult rackets land between 350 and 375 g, quoted as a range, so ask the shop to weigh yours.

### Core hardness

The core is the foam inside the face, almost always **EVA**. Soft cores flex: the ball leaves slower, with more feel and less shock to the elbow. Hard cores return energy to a fast swing and punish a slow one. The catalogue calls this **feel**, and most buyers skip it.

### Surface texture

Faces are fibreglass or carbon; carbon is stiffer and dearer. Rough finishes add spin. Fibreglass gives up nothing to a player not yet spinning the ball on purpose.

### The side you play

The **right-side** player defends more and needs a racket that keeps the ball in: round or teardrop, big sweet spot, lower balance. The **left-side** player takes the overheads, where a higher balance earns its keep. Decide who plays where before you buy.

### The level trap

The commonest mistake is buying the signature diamond of the professional you watch. [Adidas](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/adidas) sells it as the Metalbone, [Bullpadel](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/bullpadel) as the Hack, [Babolat](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/babolat) as the Technical Viper: excellent rackets built for a swing you do not have yet. Most club players over-buy on power and under-buy on sweet spot. Not sure what game you have? A [match video analysis](https://padelaiapp.com/features/padel-video-analysis) tells you in numbers.

### The 2026 trend: softer cores

The 2026 direction is clear. [Head](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/head) builds its current range on foam, [Star Vie](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/star-vie)'s Metheora Dual uses a dual-density EVA, and Adidas now sells the Metalbone 2026 with a soft core next to the harder HRD+. New foams lose less ball speed than old soft cores did, so the softer version of a frame is usually the right one.

### When to change racket

When the face goes soft in the centre, when the frame cracks, or when it no longer matches your game. If your technique scores moved a full level, the right spec moved too. Our [racket finder](https://padelaiapp.com/features/padel-racket-finder) ranks all 1,418 rackets in seven questions and uses your real scores if you have a scan on file. The [brand pages](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets) cover what each model line is for.

Whatever you pick, the [FIP rules of padel](https://www.padelfip.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/FIP_Rules-of-Padel.pdf) cap a racket at 45.5 cm long, 26 cm wide and 38 mm thick, and require a non-elastic wrist cord of at most 35 cm, which you must wear.

## Which spec for which player

| Player type | Shape | Balance | Core | Example pick |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Intermediate all-rounder | Teardrop | Medium | Medium | Bullpadel Vertex 05 Hybrid |
| Advanced all-rounder | Teardrop | Medium or higher | Medium or harder | Alkemia Ignis, Head Speed Pro X |
| Right-side defender | Round | Low-medium | Medium or hard | Oxdog Pure Pro Plus |
| Left-side attacker | Diamond | High | Medium or hard | Nox AT10 Genius Attack |
| Control player, fast swing | Round | Medium-high | Hard | Babolat Counter Viper |
| Elbow or shoulder trouble | Round | Low-medium | Medium-soft | Star Vie Metheora Pro Touch |
| Power player, finishes points | Diamond | High | Hard | Head Extreme Pro |
| Budget under £200 | Round | Low-medium | Medium-soft | Nox ML10 Pro Cup |

## Mistakes people make buying a racket

### Buying the professional's diamond at 3.5

A high-balance, hard-core diamond needs a fast, early swing to find its small sweet spot. Below about 5.0 most players hit it late, lose control, and blame their technique.

### Reading the weight, ignoring the balance

Two rackets can both say 365 g and feel completely different: weight at the tip swings heavy, weight at the handle swings light and reacts faster.

### Treating the price as the spec

The catalogue rates a €150 Nox level with frames at more than double the price. Price tracks carbon content and marketing, not fit.

### Never weighing the frame you bought

Manufacturers quote ranges of 10 to 35 g; some Star Vie models span 350 to 385 g. Two frames of one model can feel like two rackets.

## Questions about the best padel racket

### What is the best padel racket?

It depends on your level, the side you play and your arm. For most intermediate and advanced club players it is a medium-feel, medium-balance teardrop, hence the Alkemia Ignis 2026 as our overall pick.

### Which padel racket do the pros use?

Signature diamonds, nearly all: Ale Galán the Adidas Metalbone, Juan Lebrón the Babolat Technical Viper, Agustín Tapia the Nox AT10. Retail frames share the mould; the swing is not for sale.

### What is the best padel racket for control?

A round frame with a big sweet spot. The Babolat Counter Viper 2026 is rated 10 for control; the Oxdog Pure Pro Plus 2026 has the 9.7 sweet spot. Softer feel: Star Vie Metheora Pro Touch.

### Is a diamond or round racket better?

Neither; they do different jobs. Round rewards consistency and suits the right side and most players below 4.0. Diamond puts mass at the tip for overhead power and shrinks the sweet spot. Teardrop splits the difference.

### How much should I spend on a padel racket?

€150 to €300 RRP buys everything a club player can use; UK street prices sit below the euro RRP. Under €150 is mostly fibreglass and soft cores, for beginners. Above €300 you pay for denser carbon and branding.

### How often should I change my padel racket?

When it is broken or no longer fits your game, not on a calendar. A cracked frame or a face gone soft in the centre is finished. Outgrowing a racket bought at 3.0 is the commoner case.

### What weight padel racket should I use?

Most sit between 350 and 375 g. Lighter frames, 340 to 355 g, suit smaller players, sore arms and net players. Heavier frames only pay off if you generate your own racket-head speed.

### Are expensive padel rackets worth it?

Less often than the price tags suggest. The €150 Nox ML10 Pro Cup Rough Surface is rated 8.6, level with the €320 Babolat Counter Viper, and the €250 Alkemia Ignis shares the top rating with a €400 Adidas.
