## Our beginner picks, seven rackets that forgive

The best padel racket for beginners is round with a soft or medium core and a low or medium balance. All seven are. Prices are euro RRP; UK street prices run lower.

### Best overall: Nox ML10 Pro Cup 2025

Round, medium-soft EVA HR3 core, fibreglass face, low balance, around €150. Rated 8.5 with control at 9.0. Miguel Lamperti endorses it, and it is still a control racket.

### Best budget: Bullpadel Indiga CTR 2025

A cheap padel racket that is still a real one: round, SoftEVA core, Polyglass face, low balance, around €79. Rated 7.1, which is fair. A starter frame, not a keeper.

### Best for a tennis convert: Babolat Counter Vertuo 2026

Tennis players swing big and find the frame at first. A 9.1 sweet spot, a light 340 to 360 g build and a medium balance that feels familiar. Around €180.

### Best lightweight: Head Gravity Team Light 2024

340 g, Control FOAM core, fibreglass face, low-medium balance, around €160. Manoeuvrability is rated 9.7, the highest here. Power is rated 5.4; a beginner does not need more.

### Best for a lighter player: Nox ML10 Pro Cup Silver 2025

The ML10 in its lighter build: 350 to 365 g, low-medium balance, same core and face, around €150. Listed as the women's model, rated 8.6 with a 9.2 sweet spot.

### Best for arm comfort: Oxdog Sense Match Light 2024

Weight is the manufacturer's stated range. Balance is where the mass sits: low means towards the handle, high means towards the head. Price band is the recommended retail price in euros (entry under 120, mid 120 to 200, premium 200 to 300, pro over 300); UK street prices are usually lower. Level is our reading of the shape, balance and core, not a rule.

## Five decisions, in the right order

Shape, core and balance decide how a padel racket for beginners plays. Brand decides the colour.

### Pick a round shape

A round racket keeps the sweet spot in the centre, where a new player actually hits the ball. Teardrop and diamond move it towards the tip for a smash you do not have yet.

### Pick a soft or medium core

A soft core flexes on contact, so a mis-hit still clears the net and the shock stays out of your elbow. A hard core punishes everything but a clean swing.

### Stay under 365 g with a low balance

Weight is the number on the box; balance is where it sits. A low balance keeps the mass near your hand, so the racket is quick at the net and the arm tires later.

### Set a budget of about £80 to £150

That buys a current-season round racket from a real brand in the UK. Above £150 you pay for stiffness a beginner cannot use yet. Below £80, check shape and core twice.

### Try before you buy, or use a finder

Clubs and specialist shops lend demo rackets. Hit twenty volleys with each and notice which one you forgot about. No demo? The app's racket finder ranks all 1,418 from seven questions.

## Shape, core and balance, in plain words

### What a padel racket for beginners needs

**Round** puts the sweet spot in the centre of the face. **Teardrop** moves it up and trades forgiveness for power. **Diamond** puts it near the tip, where a beginner never makes contact. The [best padel racket](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/best-padel-racket) guide covers those two.

The core is the block inside, usually EVA rubber, sometimes foam as in Head's Control FOAM. Softer flexes more: more bounce, less shock up the arm. **Fibreglass** faces flex and forgive; **carbon** is stiffer and lasts longer. For a first padel racket, fibreglass is the better material, not the cheaper compromise.

Brands quote a weight range because rackets vary out of the mould, so ask the shop to weigh yours. **Balance** is where that weight sits, and a low balance decides how quick the racket feels more than the number does.

Padel points go to the pair that makes fewer errors. Read [how to play padel](https://padelaiapp.com/how-to-play-padel): most of the game happens at the volley and off the glass. A large sweet spot returns the mis-hits that make up half of a beginner's contacts. Power only counts if you hit the middle.

### Do not buy the pro's racket

Ale Galán and Juan Lebrón play stiff diamond frames with a high balance, built for a smash they have practised since childhood. The same racket does not buy the smash, only a small sweet spot, a heavy head and a sore elbow. The [Adidas](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/adidas) and [Babolat](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/babolat) pages separate the pro lines from the rest, as do [Nox](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/nox), [Bullpadel](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/bullpadel) and [Head](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets/head) on the [rackets hub](https://padelaiapp.com/rackets). Move to a teardrop when you can volley ten balls in a row into one corner, usually in the second season.

### Second-hand, grips and the strap

A used round racket from a real brand is a fair first buy. Tap the whole face for a dull spot, which means a cracked core, and check the edge for chips. Heat cracks EVA, and the listing will not mention the car boot.

Add one overgrip to the base grip and change it every few weeks. The strap is not optional: the [FIP Rules of Padel](https://www.padelfip.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/FIP_Rules-of-Padel.pdf) require a non-elastic cord of at most 35 cm fixed to the handle and worn around the wrist, and cap the racket at 45.5 cm long, 26 cm wide and 38 mm thick. More on our [padel rules](https://padelaiapp.com/padel-rules) page. Then the 30 short [padel lessons](https://padelaiapp.com/features/padel-lessons) in the app take over, and the [racket finder](https://padelaiapp.com/features/padel-racket-finder) waits for the day you outgrow this list.

## Signs you bought the wrong first racket

### Your elbow hurts after a match

A hard core and a high balance send every off-centre hit up the arm. Elbow soreness after a friendly is usually the racket, not your technique.

### Half your shots come off the frame

A sweet spot near the tip means the middle of the face, where you actually make contact, is dead. If the shape is a diamond, it is not a beginner padel racket.

### No control on the volley

Volleys that fly long or sit up mean the racket is doing too much of the work. A round control racket lets you block a volley short instead of punching it.

### Your arm is tired after 30 minutes

Either the racket is over 370 g or the weight sits in the head. Go lighter or lower in balance; the Head Gravity Team Light at 340 g exists for this complaint.

## Questions about beginner padel rackets

### What padel racket should a beginner buy?

A padel racket for beginners: round, soft or medium core, low balance, 340 to 365 g. Our best overall is the Nox ML10 Pro Cup 2025 at around €150; the Bullpadel Indiga CTR 2025 at around €79 if money is tight.

### How much should a beginner spend on a padel racket?

About £80 to £150 in the UK. The picks here run from €79 to €189 RRP, and UK retailers often sell below the euro RRP.

### Is a round or teardrop racket better for beginners?

Round. The sweet spot sits in the centre, where a new player makes contact, and the lower balance makes the racket quicker at the net.

### Are carbon padel rackets good for beginners?

Usually not. Carbon is stiffer, so it punishes off-centre contact; fibreglass forgives it and is kinder to the elbow. The exception is carbon over a soft core, like the Star Vie Titania.

### What weight padel racket is best for a beginner?

Between 340 and 365 g, and balance matters as much as the number. A 360 g racket with a low balance feels quicker than a 350 g one with the weight in the head.

### Can a beginner use a diamond racket?

It will make your game look worse than it is. A diamond puts the sweet spot near the tip and the weight in the head: right for a pro smash, wrong for a beginner's volleys and lobs.

### Do I need a padel racket with a wrist strap?

Yes. The FIP Rules of Padel require a non-elastic cord of at most 35 cm fixed to the handle, and say its use is obligatory. A racket that leaves your hand on a smash hits your partner.

### How long does a beginner padel racket last?

One to two seasons at once or twice a week, before the core softens and the face loses its bounce. Most players replace it sooner, because they got better.
